LANCASTER - Shantanel Bivens did something in the Marauder women's basketball team victory against Santa Monica College that no other player has done for AVC in nearly seven years.
Bivens recorded her ninth double-double of the season, but more importantly it was probably Bivens' best game of the season as she finished with 21 points and 20 rebounds. The last player to score at least 20 points and grab 20 rebounds was Florida Siaosi in 2009.
The Marauders had no problems with the Corsairs with an easy 84-62 victory, Wednesday night at Antelope Valley College. It was the first time all season that the Marauders have reached the 70-point plateau.
"Today we made sure we came out with positive energy so our sophomores could have a good last game," said AVC's Dir'Rashua Patterson. "I definitely believe we are a playoff team. These last few games for our sophomores are very critical. I feel like we're at a little better place in the season, it's just too bad it happened late in the season."
Patterson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Destini Price scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Malaysia Broome finished with 12 points.
The Marauders led 19-11 after the first quarter and dominated the second by outscoring the Corsairs 21-8, taking a 40-19 lead at halftime. AVC evened its record at 14-14, the first time it has been at .500 all season.
