Young Wildcats can't hold on against SMC,66-63

Culver City, CA:
For three quarters, WEST LA held the lead against conference rival Santa Monica College.
But the young 'Cats were unable to hold the lead towards the end of the game.
After a close 12-12 first quarter, Eriana Gowdy hit a 3 pointer at the halftime horn to give WEST a 31-21 lead.

WEST would build the lead to 13 in the 3rd on another Gowdy three pointer. SMC mounted
a furious comeback and reduced the Wildcat lead to two at 52-50. CeCe Delph drained a 3 pointer
on an assist from Taniya Simmons and with 9:39 in the fourth, WEST held a 55-50 advantage.
Youth reared its ugly head as the Wildcats went 5 straight possessions without scoring, until
Justice Walters' jumper put WEST up four with 7:05 remaining.

Walters knocked down another mid range jumper giving WEST LA a 60-57 advantage. With 3:14
to go Vanessa Linares scored on a Simmons assist, pushing the WEST lead to 5. The Wildcats
went scoreless on another five consecutive possesions late, combined with the Corsairs going on a 6-0 run;
