JAGS STOP THE SKID… BEAT COMPTON 28-18 TO FINISH THE SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE.

The story of the game was OMAR HERNANDEZ (Hilltop HS).  OMAR hadn't started a game at QB for 3 years.  He accepted the challenge of playing QB in the final game of the season.  In the end he threw 3 TD passes, 2 to #2 MALIK KIMBROUGH (San Jacinto, Hemet HS).  Kimbrough came over to the offense in the 4th quarter and did the damage.  The game started with a long TD pass to TRAVIS GARDNER (Eastlake HS).  All 3 players are sophomores.

The other big play came in the first half on a fake field goal for a 30 yard TD with ANTHONY BABIDA (Olympian HS) at the holder he threw a "shovel pass) to freshman DRAKE MADARANG (Hilltop HS) who took the ball and dodged defenders and dove for the goal line beating the final defender for the score.

It was a great win… the quote by Teddy Roosevelt fits this group that stayed together:

JAGS KEEP COMPETING… FALL TO SAN BERNARDIO VALLEY 51-17

The JAGS ran out of gas on Saturday night in San Bernardino.  With injures continuing to mount up we came off two close losses by a total of 5 points.  UNBELIEVABLE.  This past week weekend we strapped up our pads and played an outstanding SBVC team.  Even though we had beaten them 8 of the last 9 meetings it wasn't to be.

OFFENSE: Our offense came under the leadership of freshman LJ AGUAN (Guam HS) at QB.  Aguan came on the week before stepping in at QB and leading us to a 27-24 loss to Desert.  The top players in our SBVC game were Sophomore OT SHANE GAMA (Orange Lutheran HS) and sophomore RB SHANNON NICKSON (Mount Miguel HS).  Aguan was injured early in the game and sophomore OMAR HENDERSON (Hilltop HS) stepped in a QB as our 6th QB this season.

DEFENSE: The leading defender for the JAGS was freshman LB MATT SECREST (Half Moon Bay HS).  Freshman defensive lineman AC CLAYTON (East Bay HS) had a sack and four total tackles.  SBVC made most of their gains on explosion plays while our defense shut down the majority of their offense.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore place kicker ANDRES BURGOIN (Otay Ranch HS) and sophomore punter ANTHONY BABIDA (Olympian HS) were the stars of the night.  Burgoin had two PAT's and two field goals.  Babida had four punts over a net 40 years.

JAGS MISS THE MARK WITH 27-24 LOSS

The JAGS hosted the 5-0 (league) College of the Desert this past Saturday and came up a bit short despite an outstanding effort in all three phases of the game. 

OFFENSE: Our offense continues to struggle as we go through QB's right and left.  Freshman WR LJ AGUON (Guam HS) is the latest to take snaps for the JAGS.  A high school QB, LJ was used to the position pressures and stepped up to the plate.  Sophomore WR TRAVIS GARDNER (Eastlake HS) caught a key TD pass and sophomore RB MALIK KIMBROUGH (San Jacinto HS) added a 51 yard run for a TD.

DEFENSE: The leading tackler for our defense this week was DAVID BLEVINS (Dos Pueblos HS).  He had 9 total tackles.  The game came down to outstanding defense inside the 10 yard line.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore kicker ANDRES BURGOIN (Otay Ranch HS) had a 27 yard field goal.  Kimbrough and JUAN STEWART (San Diego HS) both had outstanding returns.

COACHES CORNER… EAST LA 2015

JAGS KEEP IT MOVING… BEAT EAST LA 35-21

The JAGS traveled to Los Angeles for a Mountain Conference game with East LA.  The Huskies and JAGS came into the game with identical records and hopes for the remainder of the season.  This past weekend Victor Valley lost their first game game of the season to San Bernardino Valley opening the door for a run for the conference championship.  The next step in that run is Mt. San Jacinto College. 

OFFENSE: Our offense continues to improve behind the outstanding play of our offensive line.  The big 5 up front have paved the way for a consistent running game.  The top performer in the running game this week was sophomore OT VALIN KATULLA (Steele Canyon HS).  The explosive player of the game was JUAN STEWART, freshman WR (San Diego HS).  Besides catching an 80 yard TD pass STEWART caught two fourth down conversions.  Sophomore QB CODY SPRINGSGUTH (Otay Ranch HS) came off the bench in the second half to lead the offense on three long drives.  Freshman TE JELANI JAMES (Olympian HS) caught his first TD of his career.  MALIK KIMBROUGH sophomore RB (San Jacinto HS) had two rushing TD's.

DEFENSE: The leading tackler for our defense was SHAREEF SHABAZZ sophomore DB (Gin Academy, Cleveland) had 9 tackles.  Our defense battled from the get go holding the leading receiver in the conference to 6 catches on the night.  The defensive player of the game was so sophomore DB DOMINIC MORGAN (St. Augustine HS) with 4 tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown.  Freshman defensive lineman JAQUIEL BRADFORD (Hoover HS) had 5 total tackles and a sack.

SPECIAL TEAMS:  Sophomore kicker OMAR HERNANDEZ (Hilltop HS) had 3 touchbacks.  Sophomore TREVOR KEMP (Bonita Vista HS) had a perfect night snapping.

COACHES CORNER… SD MESA 2015

JAGS BEAT THEIR NEIGHBOR... SD MESA  42-30.

The JAGS stepped up to the challenge of defending their home field with a big win over neighbor Mesa College.  The JAGS jumped out to a 28-3 lead when the much improved Olympians took advantage of a couple of JAG mistakes prior to half time to move the game closer.  At half time the score was 28-17.  The JAG offense continued to answer Mesa success with touchdown drives.  We reach the BYE week at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league.  When we return we will travel to East LA College.

OFFENSE:
The offense delivered big for the first time in 2015 exploding for 42 points on the night.  We rushed for 315 yards on 56 carries and six rushing TD's.  Two sophomores led the way  SHANNON NICKSON (Mount Miguel HS) and MALIK KIMBROUGH (San Jacinto HS). KIMBROUGH played both ways in the game at RB and DB.  He had 101 yards on 10 carries.  Sophomore WR GREG BLACKSHEAR (Duluth HS, Atlanta) stepped up with two key 3rd down catches in the fourth quarter.  JOE JOE HUDSON (St. Augustine HS) passes for 158 yards and rushed for another 71 yards.  RAY SAMUELS (Chula Vista HS) sophomore OG led the way with excellent play inside.

DEFENSE:
The JAG defense played with great emotion.  Freshman RICKI BARFIELD (McCluer North HS,  MO) and sophomore LB TREVOR KEMP (Bonita Vista HS) both intercepted passes.  DAVID BLEVINS (Dos Pueblos HS Santa Barbara) freshman LB led the team in tackles.  We sacked the Mesa QB twice and had 6 tackles for loss.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
In the kicking game sophomore place kicker OMAR HERNANDEZ (Hilltop HS) led the way with 4 touchbacks.

COACHES CORNER...VICTOR VALLEY 2015

JAGS FALL 34-14
The long trip to Victorville was made a bit longer with one of our buses over heated and had to cool down on the side of the road.  That was the start of a frustrating afternoon.  After four weeks of play the story is all about explosion plays.  Our defense has allowed too many & our offense has not created enough.  As we enter the mid-way point in the season that MUST change. 

OFFENSE:
Austin Gonzalez (Helix HS) came out of nowhere to make several big plays including a 40 yard touchdown from Joe Joe Hudson (St. Augustine HS).  The offense gained some second half movement finishing drives inside our opponents' 20 yard line but not getting any points.

DEFENSE:
The JAG defense played well early in the game creating turnovers.  The top defensive performer was Rickey Barfield (St Louis MO). In the second half we gave up a long pass & long run for touchdowns. 

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Although we won the kicking game rubrics we gave up a punt return for a TD (first time in two seasons).  We also lost the field position battle by poor execution by our kickoff return team.

We return for a home game this weekend against Mesa College.

COACHES CORNER… LA PIERCE 2015

JAGS STOP THE SKID… BEAT LA PIERCE 23-20.
The JAGS stepped up to the Challenge of righting the ship with a win over the 1-0 LA Pierce Brahma's.  After a long wait to start the game (8:35) do to Pierce bus problems the JAGS looked like the JAGS of the past three seasons.  We will start conference play by traveling to Victor Valley College for a 1:00 pm kickoff.

OFFENSE:
Shannon Nickson (Mount Miguel HS) stepped up again with a 126 yards rushing… a rushing and receiving TD.  SHANNON ran hard and was the primary force behind a resilient offense.  Freshman Joe Hudson (St. Augustine HS) played the entire game at QB leading the JAGS to our first win on the season.  The offensive player of the game was offensive guard Ray Samuels (Chula Vista HS).  RAY had an unprecedented 15 pancake blocks in the game.

DEFENSE:
The JAG defense that had struggled to find it's identity in the first two games came together to set the tone for the game.  The defensive player of the game was sophomore LB Trevor Kemp (Bonita Vista HS).  Trevor had an interception for a TD and led the team in tackles he also forced two fumbles.   Mahmoud Mansour (Mira Mesa HS) DT applied constant pressure on the QB and had two sacks on the night.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
In the kicking game return man Ahmad Huddleston (St. Louis HS) once again had a fantastic game in the return game.  Additionally making a circus catch on a key first down.  The special teams player of the game for the JAGS is Michael Benjamin (Helix Charter HS).  MICHAEL blocked a Pierce punt to force a key turnover for the JAGS.

COACHES CORNER… SANTA MONICA 2015

JAGS FALL TO 0-2 START.. LOSE TO SANTA MONICA 48 - 21.
We continue to make mistakes that often plague young teams.  Playing a very fast and talented Santa Monica team that got out to a quick lead.  

OFFENSE:
Shannon Nickson (Mount Miguel HS) was our offensive player of the game.  NICKSON had 12 rushes and a TD.  We once again played rotating QB's with very little success.  Freshman Joe Hudson (St. Augustine HS) threw a 52 yard TD.

DEFENSE:
The defensive bright spot was Shareef Shabazz (Cleveland Ohio) was the defensive player of the game.  Chris Farrell (Valhalla HS) intercepted a pass and ran it back for a TD.

SPECIAL TEAMS
:
In the kicking game punter Ahmad Huddleston (St. Louis HS) was our special teams player of the week. 
 

Our next game is at home against LA Pierce College at  6:00 pm.

COACHES CORNER… GROSSMONT 2015

JAGS STUMBLE OUT OF THE GATE IN 2015 ALL TO GROSSMONT 52-10.
With a very young team the JAGS came out slow and struggled being consistent in any phase of the game.
 

OFFENSE:
Offensively no one played with any consistency.  The running game couldn't untracked.  Our experienced area of the offense is our offensive line.  Sophomore Shane Gama (Orange Lutheran HS) was a bright spot playing with outstanding consistency.  He was named the offensive player of the game.

DEFENSE:
We came out strong early playing good run defense and keeping pressure on the Grossmont QB's.  The player of the game for our defense was Rasheed Farha (Otay Ranch HS).

SPECIAL TEAMS:
In the kicking game punter Anthony Babida (Bonita Vista HS) came off the bench to be our special teams player of the week. 

Our next game we travel to Santa Monica College for a 6:00 pm game.
