An opportunistic defense and a few trick plays were all the Corsairs needed tonight to pull off a big win at Chaffey College. 4 turnovers led to 27 points for SMC, but it all started with a fake punt early in the first half to get the ball rolling. On 4th and 5 from the Chaffey 33, the Corsairs lined up in punt formation. A quick snap to back-up QB Michael Miller and a pass to wide open Ralph Gordon II and the Corsairs took a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
SMC took at 27-10 lead into halftime, and closed the door early in the third quarter. Reggie Mitchell took a reverse, broke a few tackles, and rumbled 33 yards to seal the deal.
QB Alfonso Medina was 15-23 for 167 and 1 TD, and Myles Johnson rushed 14 times for 83 and 1 TD.
Next up for Santa Monica is road trip to San Bernardino Valley College on September 15th. Kickoff is 6pm.
