QB Alfonso Medina Commits to Weber State

Santa Monica College quarterback Alfonso Medina announced that he has committed to play football next year at Weber State University, a member of the Big Sky Conference.

Medina made an official visit last weekend to the Odgen, Utah campus and had an in-home visit from offensive coordinator Timm Rosenbach and wide receiver coach Craig Stutzmann on Tuesday before making his decision to become a Wildcat.

"I loved it when I went on my official visit. The feeling of the town, the program, and the people in the athletic department from the AD to the secretaries was a wonderful experience," said Medina. "They run a similar system to ours [at SMC] and having a chance to compete for a starting spot is all I can ask for."

The sophomore is a high school qualifier and is expected to sign his letter of intent on December 19th, the first day of JC mid-year signing period. He will begin classes on January 7th.

During his time with the Corsairs, Medina was a two-year starter and threw for 5,345 yards and 61 touchdowns to lead SMC to its first back-to-back conference titles in 31 years.

He twice broke the school's single season touchdown record and shattered Dylen Smith's 41 touchdown career mark. Among the players that Smith had as targets were NFL Pro Bowl wide receivers Steve Smith and Chad Johnson.

Weber State plays in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision. The Wildcats finished with a 2-9 record this season.

He played his prep career at Venice High.
