Corsairs defeat LA Pierce 77-54

Santa Monica, Calif.

The Corsairs picked up a 77-54 league win at home against L.A. Pierce. The Corsairs (14-9, 2-1) controlled the pace on both ends of the floor and held L.A Pierce (12-11, 0-3) to 31.5% from the field.

After holding an eight point lead after the first half, Santa Monica intensified their defense and held L.A. Pierce to 21.5% from the field in the second half. The Corsairs attacked glass and outrebounded Brahmas by 27-10 in the second half. 

"When we defend and rebound, I think we give ourselves a solid chance to win games. Tonight our guys brought the energy from the start, and their determination did not ever waver, "said Head Coach Joshua Thomas. " Our coaching staff was proud of the effort and the focus of our players today."

 Sophomore power forward, Marcus Harris exploded in the second half, scoring 19 points and shooting 8-8 from the field, including 3-3 from three-point range. He had a phenomenal sequence in the second half where he outscored the Brahmas 15-8 himself. Harris scored 15 consecutive points, and he ended the run with three straight three-pointers. However, the run did not stop there, as Harris and the Corsairs outscored the Brahmas 27-9 during a 10-minute stretch.

"My coach kept pushing me to do better during the game," Harris explained, "Once he told the team to feed my hot hand, I just really got in the zone."

Harris was the game leading scorer with 24 points, and he shot 10-13 from the field, and he grabbed six rebounds, and he dished out four assists.

Freshman guard LeAndrew Knight scored 12 points off of the bench and was a perfect 6-6 from the field. Sophomore small forward Jordan Wilson did a little bit of everything with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. 

The Corsairs travel to Bakersfield College on Wednesday, February 6th and play at 5:00 p.m.
