The Santa Monica College Men's Basketball Team had numerous successful student-athletes in the classroom in the Spring 2020 semester. Eight men's basketball student-athletes made the "Dean's Honors List," which requires full-time students to have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Five student-athletes who took under 12 units had a 3.0 GPA or higher. The average GPA for the Spring 2020 semester for the men's basketball program was 3.15 GPA. Two members in the program earned a 4.0 GPA in the Spring.

"Our men's basketball staff are very pleased with the work that these young men put in the classroom. Last Fall, the team GPA was 2.94, so to see an increase is great," explained Head Coach Joshua Thomas. "Furthermore, their success in the classroom is very impressive considering the devasting change to our world when the pandemic interrupted the Spring semester. To see these student-athletes persevere with many of the classes abruptly moving to remote teaching is an amazing accomplishment."

"Santa Monica College did an amazing job supporting our students when the pandemic changed our daily lives," said Coach Thomas. "We know the student-athletes in our program had to make major adjustments to remote learning, but they all figured it out. There were so many challenges in the Spring semester with all the changes, and our staff commends the student-athletes for adapting and being effective despite the unforeseen circumstances of COVID-19.
