Santa Monica, Calif. – Elias King, a 6-9 Freshman, was named the 2019-2020 Santa Monica College General Advisory Board (GAB) Male Athlete of the Year and the GAB Men's Basketball Athlete of the Year. Both awards recognize student-athletes who excelled academically and athletically and rendered community service.

King, a Division I signee to Quinnipiac University, led the Corsairs in points per game and free throw percentage. Furthermore, King was named to the 2019-2020 CCCAA All-State Men's Basketball Team Honorable Mention, which was the first SMC basketball player to earn this distinction since 2003.

"I'm happy to be named Santa Monica College Men's Basketball Player of the Year and Santa Monica College Male Athlete of the Year. I'm thankful for the time I had at Santa Monica College. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for a great year at SMC," King said, who was stellar on the court for the Corsairs and excellent in the classroom as a student.

"Elias had such an impactful year at SMC in his lone season. I could not think of anyone more deserving of these honors after the year he had. He made the Dean's Honors List each semester and was one of the top players in the state. His dedication in the classroom was impressive. He took as many as 19 units in a given semester while still participating in a collegiate sport. I am sure he will continue his success on and off the court at Quinnipiac University," said Head Coach Joshua Thomas.

King registered six games with 20 or more points, scored in double-figures 18 times, pulled down 10 or more rebounds three times, and attempted 10 or more free throws seven times.
