Santa, Monica, CA

Santa Monica College Head Men's Basketball Coach Joshua Thomas announced that 6-5 Sophomore Amitai Afenjar has officially signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic basketball career at Peru State College in Nebraska.  Peru State is an NAIA athletic participant.  Afenjar averaged 5.2 points, grabbed 3.3 rebounds, shot 54% from the field, and shot 46.7% from three-point range in his sophomore season at SMC.

"Amitai made some spectacular plays during his time at SMC. He was our leader in dunks in the past two seasons at SMC. Amitai plays with a high-motor and displays an elite level of athleticism," said Head Coach Joshua Thomas. "We are excited for him. Peru State College has landed a winner and a great person. Amitai possesses excellent people skills and has a bright future. We are excited for what he will do athletically and academically at Peru State. Amitai has a great support system, and his number one fan, Monique – his mom, raised an excellent young man."

"Amitai is a special athlete, and he has barely scratched the surface of his potential. He has a tremendous work ethic and a drive to be great. He has done everything that was asked of him at SMC and never complained about the less than glamorous parts of basketball. Amitai has a very bright future ahead of him and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the last two years with him," said SMC Assistant Coach Devon Richardson.

Afenjar, who graduated with his AA degree in Communication Studies, logged his season-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds on January 8th in a 98-66 win against Bakersfield and only missed one shot the entire game.

Afenjar had career-highs of 26 points, 11 rebounds (twice), five assists, five steals, and two blocks (twice). Afenjar scored in double-figures six times, scored 20 or more points twice, grabbed 10 or more rebounds twice, and registered two double-doubles.
