Santa Monica College’s 6-6 Freshman Alex Villi signed his letter of intent to continue his basketball career and academics at Ottawa University, an NAIA athletic participant located in Surprise, Arizona. He averaged 14.1 points, 6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 41.4% from the field, 38.1% from three-point range, and 75% from the free throw line.

“Alex is a very talented player. His skill at his size on the wing is a tough match-up for opponents. He is a great shooter and knows how to get to this spots and score the ball,” shared Head Coach Joshua Thomas. “ I knew when he committed to SMC Basketball that we were getting a special player with immense talent and skill. He was our best player all season long, and our staff is very happy for Alex and his family. Ottawa University Men’s Basketball is getting a great young man who has his best years of basketball ahead of him. We look forward to intently following Alex’s career at Ottawa University.”

Villi, who transferred to SMC from Metro State University and Fresno Pacific University, amassed season- highs of 27 points, 13 rebounds, five assists (three times), five steals, one block (eight times), and six three-pointers made (twice).

“First off, I want to give all glory to God. I want to thank my parents for pushing me and allowing me to pursue my dream. Next I want to thank my teammates, and even more so my roommates Daiquan and Chianti for always having my back. Lastly, I want to thank the whole coaching staff for seeing my goal and helping me to achieve it,” said Villi.

Villi, native of Fresno, CA, was voted to the Western State-South Conference First Team this season. Villi scored 22 points or more six times, and he made at least two three-pointers or more in 19 games this season.

“I chose Ottawa because I love how they play, and I see championships in our future. I get to link up with my teammate from high school too, and I know we share the same goals,” said Villi.
