SMC Swimmer Gabriel Miranda wins second state title

Santa Monica College Corsair swimmer Gabriel Miranda won the state championship in the men's 200 yard freestyle at the California Community College Athletic Association Swim and Dive Championship held at East Los Angeles College, Friday.

Miranda claimed his second gold medal of the weekend with a time of 1:38:65.

"My team and my coaches were around me screaming my name," Miranda said of the moment he realized he was state champion again. "I felt like everything I had suffered through during the season was worth it."

The Brazilian émigré is scheduled to compete tomorrow in the 100 yard freestyle.

Other Corsair swimmers Sophia Beres-Charter and Brandon Saliba are scheduled to compete tomorrow in the women's 100 yard freestyle and the men's 200 yard breaststroke respectively.
