SMC Dominates the Boards, Takes 3rd Place

The Santa Monica College Women's Basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 57-42 win over Rio Hondo College securing a third place finish in the 2nd Annual Coaches for Cancer Tournament at San Diego Mesa College.

For the third game in a row the Corsairs dominated the boards which contributed heavily in the victory.  Freshman Imani Holloway was the only SMC player in double figures (10 points, 5 rebounds), but Asia Watts (9 points, 5 rebounds, Angelique McDaniel (8 points, 6 assists),  J'miayah Alston (8 points, 5 rebounds), and Aniese Palmore (8 points, 9 rebounds) contributed significantly to the victory.  "I'm proud of the team and the way they competed this weekend," stated Head Coach Lydia Strong.  "Its great that we took 3rd place!  We are a young team and have a long way to go, but the kids play hard and really attack the boards, which will help us the entire season and I'm happy to see that."
