SMC Dominates College of the Canyons

The Santa Monica College Women's Basketball team was in unfamiliar territory.  The team lost its first Western State Conference game last Wednesday to Bakersfield College (74-63) and were looking to return to form against College of the Canyons.

Santa Monica College was very aggressive on the boards vs. Canyons outrebounding the Cougars 59-34 with Lauren Davis (20 rebounds and 25 points) and Mosou Secka 14 rebounds and 9 points) leading the way.  "Our board play was outstanding tonight, "stated Head Coach Lydia Strong.  "The two of them really came to play on the rebounding end of things."

Also coming to play for the Corsairs were Jessica Melamed (19 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists), Katya Echavez (15 points and 4 rebounds) and Katlyn Flores  (11 points, 7 rebounds).

SMC returns to action next Wednesday for their final regular season game at L.A. Pierce College at 3:00 p.m.

SMC Women's Basketball (18-9 overall) remains in first place in the Western State Conference South Division (6-1 Conference record) and continue to maintain a #13 ranking in Southern California.
