SMC Women's Basketball advances in State Regional play

The Santa Monica College Women's Basketball came out red hot against San Diego City College and moved on to the second round of the California Community College Southern Regional. 

The #14 seed Corsairs (20-9) had one of its better scoring quarters of the season leading 27-14 at the end of the first quarter.  San Diego came within 10 points late but the Corsairs hung on for the 89-78 victory.

The Corsairs led from start to finish and were impressive throughout. "Tonight was an amazing game, stated Head Coach Lydia Strong.  "We had balanced scoring and a great display of team play. The atmosphere in the SMC Pavillion was electric as well!   We also had 4 players in double figures led by Lauren Davis (24 points 10 rebounds, Jessica Melamed (19 points, Katlyn Flores 14 points, Katya Echavez 12 points, and Mosou Secka 11 points.  I'm hoping we can continue to play well and go all the way to the state finals." 

SMC will travel to Ventura College Saturday February 25 to take on the #3 seeded Pirates at 7:00 p.m. in second round action.
