SMC Women's Soccer wins season opener

It's a day that all athletes look forward to, the first match of the season. The Santa Monica College Lady Corsairs were more than prepared as they took on the Condors of Oxnard College. The Corsairs put the pressure on early and eventually scored what turned out to be the first of three goals. The first goal was scored by Nicole Anderson in the 11th minute. A few minutes later the Condors had a huge chance to score going up one on one with the keeper, but goal keeper Emma Romero was up for a challenge and made a point blank save to keep the match 1-0. The match was a back and forth affair after that until Josseline Espinoza scored directly from a corner kick in the 32nd minute. Going into halftime the Corsairs were leading 2-0. The second half was a little bit more difficult than the first as the Condors applied wave after wave of pressure. The Lady Corsairs were up to the task and were able to withstand the pressure and score a third goal courtesy of Antoinette Saldana in the 78th minute. From there the team was able to close up shop and close out the match with a 3-0 victory. Don't forget to come and support the Lady Corsairs for our first home game of the season against Long Beach College on Tuesday at 3pm at Corsairs Stadium.
