The Santa Monica College Corsairs hosted the Pierce College Brahmas Friday afternoon at Corsair Field for the teams' final match-up of the season.  SMC was victorious defeating Pierce 3-1.

Going into the match, Pierce was a point ahead of the Corsairs in conference play, but the Corsairs came out strong from the start looking to prove themselves as the more dominant team. In the 28th minute, Dayli Ramos connected on a pass to Ceirra Little to finish the first goal of the game and give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead. With just minutes left in the first half, Cindy Castro finished a beautiful goal assisted by Ruth Pelaez. The Brahmas did not allow the Corsairs stay there for long, and scored their first goal of the game right before the final seconds before half time.

The story line played out similarly in the second half. The Corsairs handled Pierce with confidence on both sides of the ball creating several opportunities and taking a 3-1 lead in the 74th minute of play when Filippa Struxsjo finished a ball from Ceirra Little. SMC finished out the match holding Pierce to only 1 goal and returned to 1st place in the conference with the win.

The Corsairs led in every category with 17 total shots with 12 on goal to the Brahmas 6 shots with only 2 being on goal. SMC Goalkeeper Yosemite Cruz got the win in goal for the Corsairs bringing the teams overall record to 12-2-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

The Corsairs will travel to Glendale Tuesday for a 7pm kick-off and will host West LA College in their final match of the season Friday, November 9th at 3pm.

The match against West LA College will be sophomore night for the Corsairs as they pay tribute to players who have made a lasting impact on the program.
