The Santa Monica College Corsairs returned home and defeated West LA College Friday October 22, 2019 to begin the second half of Western State Conference play.    The Corsairs logged 6 goals in the first fifteen minutes of the match.    Goals were scored Narumi Kamiya, (assisted by Cindy Castro), Ceirra Little, (assisted by Anika Williams), Skylar Vorhees, Meredith Gomez, Alexi Howard (assisted by Castro), and Williams (assisted by Castro). To close out the first half, Kimberly Quevedo scored the first goal of her collegiate career off of a free kick. The Corsairs went into halftime up 7-0 dominating in every category.

 

The second half continued in similar fashion for Santa Monica College as Head Coach Aaron Benditson rotated his players to give everyone significant minutes in the match. Before the end of the game, Kayla Makkar (assisted by Gomez) and Castro (assisted by Quevedo) added a goal each to finish off the score sheet for the game. 

In the game nine different Corsairs finished goals with Castro leading the stats with one goal and three assists followed by Gomez, Williams, and Quevedo each adding one goal and one assist. As a team SMC attempted 37 shots with 24 of them being on goal. SMC Goalkeeper Taylor Brown recorded her ninth shutout of the season and the team's 10th. 

The Corsairs move to 6-1-1 in WSC play and are in second place behind Citrus College.   The Corsairs are the defending conference champions and are chasing a second consecutive conference title. Overall the Corsairs are 9-3-3 on the season and currently ranked 19th in the state.  SMC will return to action Tuesday October 29, with a 3:00 p.m. kickoff against Glendale College.   The match but may be moved depending on the state of the Getty Fire.
