Velasquez Signs Scholarship to Holy Names University

SMC Women's Soccer is excited to see another one of it's own sign a scholarship to play at the NCAA level.  Cassie Velasquez, SO, Forward, will be transferring to Holy Names University. Holy Names is a NCAA D2 university in Oakland, CA, playing in the PacWest Conference.

Velasquez started all 19 games for the playoff bound Corsairs this season, while scoring 5 goals – including one game winner.  When asked about her thoughts about signing with Holy Names, Velasquez said, "She felt relief and excitement all at once. Relief, because after COVID I did not know if I would get the opportunity. I was excited because the chance to play for a Division 2 school like Holy Names is such a great opportunity for me."  After her recent visit to the Holy Names Campus, she knew she would be at home there.

Before leaving SMC, Cassie wished to add "I want to thank Coach Aaron (Benditson) for helping me to become a better student-athlete.  I truly enjoyed my time here at SMC."
