Santa Monica College freshman Mary Katherine Ashmore is the Western State Conference Week #8 Female Athlete of the Week. In the Corsairs' opening week of competition, Ashmore had a big debut defeating Mt. San Antonio College's #1 singles player in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The team match was eventually delayed due to rain, but Santa Monica led 4-2 when the match was called. Ashmore hails from Rome, Georgia where she attended Darlington High School.
