6 SMC Women's Tennis players qualify for Regional Championships

At the 2015 Western State Conference Championships held at Ventura College, SMC tennis standout Mayra Jovic, reached the Finals of the singles draw and the Semifinals of the doubles with her doubles partner Izabel Nazdracheva.  Jovic will play the final championship round of the singles event versus Amy Shigenaga of Glendale College, Friday, April 11 at 12:00pm at Ventura College.  At 2:00pm on Friday, Jovic and Nazdracheva will play the semi-final round of the doubles.  If Jovic and Nazdracheva win the semi-final round Friday they will advance to the final championship round of the doubles Friday at 4:00pm. 

Jovic entered the tournament seeded first in singles and seeded first in doubles with Nazdracheva. 

During the opening ceremonies of the WSC Championships,  Jovic (12-0 in singles, 12-0 in doubles) was honored as the Western State Conference "Player of the Year."    Jovic was also honored as a WSC All-Conference selection for the #1 singles position.  Nazdracheva was selected as a WSC All-Conference selection for the #2 singles position.  The undefeatee doubles team of Jovic and Nazdracheva was named to the WSC All-Conference team for the #1 doubles position.

The WSC Championships is the qualifying tournament for the California Community College Athletic Association's Regional/State championships which will be held at the 115th Annual Ojai Tennis Tournament.   The link to the 115th Ojai Tennis Tournament:  http://www.ojaitourney.org/

 

 To qualify for the CCCAA Regional/State Championships a player must reach the quarterfinal round or win a backdraw round of the WSC Championships. The following is a list of the SMC Women's Tennis players who qualified in their respective events:
 

Mayra Jovic - qualified for Singles and Doubles (with partner Izabel Nazdracheva)

Izabel Nazdracheva - qualified for Singles and Doubles (with partner Mayra Jovic)

Elin Nyberg & Lauren Voiers - qualified for Doubles

Shawntel Patterson & Sammie Xiao - qualified for Doubles.
