Two Tennis players receive their award medals

Santa Monica College Women's Tennis Star Nicole West Honored as WSC Player of the Year

West leads three players into Day 3 of WSC Championships

Santa Monica, CA - April 1, 2023 - Santa Monica College (SMC) women's tennis standout Nicole West received a medal as the Western State Conference (WSC) Player of the Year before the start of Day 2 of the WSC Championships on March 31, 2023. West went undefeated in singles during the regular season, posting a perfect 12-0 record. West was also named to the 1st Team All WSC at #1 singles and 2nd Team All WSC at #1 doubles with partner Mia Ogebee.

West, Ogebee, and Veronica Gerlach all advanced for the day and will play in Day 3 of the WSC Champs, Saturday, April 1, 2023, 10:00am start time. West will face off against Ventura College's Sofia Ramirez in the semifinals of the singles draw, while Ogebee and Gerlach will compete in the doubles quarterfinals against Bakersfield College's duo of Anna Lee and Kelly Chen.

"I'm very proud of Nicole and her achievements this season. She has worked hard to improve her game and has shown great leadership and sportsmanship on and off the court," said SMC women's tennis coach Richard Goldenson. "She deserves this recognition and I'm confident she will continue to perform well in the championships and beyond."
