Congratulations to the Santa Monica College Men's and Women's Track and Field Team for their outstanding performance this weekend at the Western State Conference Championships held at Moorpark College.  The women's team finished in 5th place overall led by freshman sensation Anyese Kirkland who scored a total of 30 point by herself by taking 2nd in the 100 meter High Hurdles, 2nd in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles, 2nd in the High Jump and 6th overall in the Javelin.

Sienna James took 3rd in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles, seventh in the 100 meters and was in the 4x100 meter relay that took second place along with Valeria Ramos, Sarah Smith and sophomore team captain Joie Cosentino. Valeria Romo came away with 3rd place in the 400 meters behind an impressive performance. Joie Cosentino finished in 8th place in the Long Jump and 7th place in the Triple Jump.  Malan Baxter finished in 3rd place in the Discus Throw.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished in 5th place with a personal best time of the year of 4:12 behind Valeria Romo, Joie Cosentino, Sarah Smith and Sienna James.  "I am very proud of our Women and how valiantly they competed under adverse conditions.  We have a very strong nucleus of freshman young women who demonstrated alto of maturity on the Track and Field that will carry over to next week at the Southern California Championships and hopefully carry over to qualifying for State Championships", said Head Coach Larry Silva.
