SMC Hires two new Head Coaches

Santa Monica College would like to welcome two new coaches to our staff!

 The Women's Softball Coach is Phillip Gomez.  Coach Gomez previously coached at Eastern New Mexico University and the University of Central Missouri.   

He earned his Masters Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Central Missouri.  "It is a privilege to be named the new head softball coach at Santa Monica College, " stated Coach Gomez, "I see a lot of potential for growth within the softball program and I am excited for the opportunity to lead this program in a forward direction while representing the college well."

The new SMC Women's Water Polo Coach is Nila Ward. 

Coach Ward has played professional Water Polo for 6 different teams internationally.  She has over 10 years of coaching experience at the club level.  She has also worked with the Santa Monica High girl's team. 

Coach Ward is excited to be a part of the SMC Coaching staff and stated, "Water polo is a growing sport in the US and I hope to serve the coastal community of Santa Monica by building a strong team that student-athletes can use to develop their water polo skills and knowledge on the path to transferring to 4-year universities."
