Vae Tata
Title: Defensive Coordinator

Vae Tata begins his first year as Defensive Coordinator for Santa Monica College.    Tata has an extensive NCAA Division I coaching career that includes the 2012-2013 seasons at Stanford University. The Cardinal were consecutive PAC-12 champions as well as the 2013 Rose Bowl champions. Tata also served as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt University in 2014 before taking the head coaching position at Kahuku High school from 2015-16. In his first year at the helm, Tata led his team to a 13-0 record and a D1 state championship. In 2017, Tata was the assistant head coach at Carson High. Last year Tata was the defensive line coach for Cerritos College.

Tata began his coaching career in 2006-2007 as the defensive line coach for McKinley High School in Hawaii. In 2008-2009, he was a Quality control intern at UCLA working with both the defensive line and special teams units. In 2010-2011, Tata was a graduate assistant coach at San Jose State University. 

Tata participated in the Bill Walsh Minority internship program with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011 and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.                                                                                                                                                 

Tata earned his Bachelors Degree in Sociology and was a four-year letter winner for the UCLA Bruins from 1994-98.
