
For the third time in the past four matches, and for the fourth time this season in Western State Conference play, the VC women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision, Tuesday to Santa Monica at the VC Tennis Center. Alyssa McClain and Elizabeth Nguyen both earned a doubles point, and each won their respective singles match, and Tanya Thompson won in singles to nearly push the Pirates to victory.
Ventura trailed 2-1 coming out of doubles play with McClain and Nguyen taking their No. 3 doubles match 8-0.
In singles play, the Corsairs stretched their lead to 4-1 before Nguyen produced her 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 slot. McClain followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 5 singles before Thompson won in No. 6 singles, love and love, to square the match. SMC won a tight, three-set contest in No. 3 singles to clinch the victory.
Ventura completes WSC play Tuesday March 22 at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster.
