WOMEN'S SOCCER: SWEET REVENGE

WOMEN'S SOCCER: SWEET REVENGE

The Hornets took on a tough Santa Monica College team at home Friday afternoon and got revenge with a 2-0 victory after the Corsairs ended their season in the SoCal Regionals last year.

The game was a physical hard-fought battle with both teams having plenty of near-miss scoring opportunities where the ball sailed a bit too high over the crossbar.

FC capitalized at the start of the game on a Santa Monica mistake scoring in their own goal in the first minute.

Fullerton defense was once again on point keeping the Corsair's scoreless throughout with their stellar play.

After a back-and-forth struggle, the Hornets put the nail in the coffin scoring in the 87th minute when Victoria Arrieta took the ball on a pass from Kaelah Basurto and booted the ball past the goalie on a nice left-footed shot.

It was a thrilling win for Fullerton as they gave SMC their second loss of the season. Also, Santa Monica had beaten Rio Hondo earlier this year 2-1, which is the only team to beat the Hornets this season.

FC goal keeper Monica Balos, in just her second start, held strong in the box with 6 saves in 90 minutes.

Up Next: Fullerton (5-1 overall) will open up conference play this Tuesday, October 1st when they host Orange Coast College. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
