Women's Volleyball: Owls Open Weekend With Conference Win

Citrus Volleyball kicked off its 2019 Western State Conference South Division play on Friday in a home match against Santa Monica. Citrus beat the Corsairs in 4 sets, 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16. The Owls then turned around and played a two game stand at Mt. San Antonio College against Santa Barbara and Mt. SAC. The Owls dropped both of those matches, 0-3 and 1-3, respectively.

Friday's conference match against Santa Monica saw both teams struggling to piece together offense, but the Owls picked up the pace on defense, making up for the defecit. As a team the Owls scooped up 77 digs en route to the win. The offensive highlight though was Nia Nix, who hammered home 23 kills in the match and added 18 digs. Libero Aaliyah Robles led all players with 19 digs and added 3 aces to her stat line. Setter Vanessa Warren dished 36 assists, nearly tying her season best of 37 at Cuyamaca back on September 6th. Outside hitter Summer Edington shattered her season best in digs, picking up 15 in the contest.

On Saturday in the game against Santa Barbara, the Vaqueros topped the Owls 25-17, 25-19, 25-22. And versus Mt. SAC, the Mounties took the game 25-16, 19-25, 28-26, 25-14.

The high flying Owls take the court again Wednesday on the road against Bakersfield for a conference matchup. First serve is at 6:00 PM.
