Canyons Drops Tight 80-72 Affair at Santa Monica
By Mari Kneisel/COC Sports Information
College of the Canyons dropped another tight contest against host Santa Monica College Wednesday night losing 80-72 to the Corsairs.
Canyons (10-11, 1-6) worked at the heels of the Corsairs for the majority of the night, narrowly taking the lead a handful of times. However, Santa Monica (9-12, 5-2) continually answered back, keeping the Cougars chasing.
Though never too far behind, and tied 31-31 at halftime score, the Cougars couldn't quite find an edge over Santa Monica.
Current COC Student Athlete of the Andrew Henderson continued to play at a high level putting down 26 points while shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Henderson also worked for six rebounds and season-high seven steals.
COC saw three other Cougars finish in double digits while combining to shoot 43.5 percent as a team.
Santa Monica sophomore Cam Cohn led the way with 22 points while three other Corsairs also claimed double-digit point toals on the night.
The Corsairs finished the night at 50.9 percent from the field with a 73.9 percent mark from the line.
Though the Cougars only turned the ball over eight times compared to Santa Monica's 18, the Corsairs collected more rebounds and netted the critical shots, preventing COC from ever holding a lead.
