SMC scores 44 points in season opening loss

September 2, 2018

Santa Monica, CA –

The Santa Monica College (SMC) Football team traded scores with LA Southwest College (LASWC) in an explosive 2nd half that saw the Corsairs drop the season opener 44-48.  After LASWC scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game, the SMC offense drove across the 50-yard line before an interception ended the comeback bid.

SMC was powered on the day by sophomores Christoph Hirota and Paul Davis on the offensive side of the ball.  Hirota rushed for two touchdowns and caught another, totaling 3 TDs on the day.  He also had a 45-yard touchdown called back for a penalty on the first offensive play of the game for SMC.

Davis threw for three touchdowns on the day – all to different receivers.  In addition to throwing one to Hirota, Davis also connected with freshman Tucker LaRue and sophomore Trevor Nofoa.  Freshman Ray Washington also exploded for a 52-yard touchdown run to start off the second half.

Next week SMC (0-1) will host College of the Desert (0-1) at Corsair Stadium in Santa Monica at 6:00pm.
