SMC Splits Double-Header to Open Conference Play

SMC Basketball opened Western State Conference play with a double-header against Glendale Wednesday night at the Corsair Pavillion.

The Women's team got off to a slow start and saw themselves play from behind all evening. They were led in scoring by Freshman Guard, #24, Maya Stokes. Stokes had 19 points, while Freshman F, #14, Nataly Ramirez had 12 points.on 4 3-pt field goals. 

The Glendale Vaqueros won by a final score of 95-45. 

 

SMC Men's Basketball Opens WSC play 1-0

The Corsair's Mens basketball team came from behind in the WSC opener to beat Glendale 83-69.

After trailing early in the game, SMC tied the game two minutes before halftime and played a closely contested game for much of the next 15 minutes of play. With just over six minutes to play in the game an SMC defensive steal lead to an alleyoop by #24, Malachi White, that brought the Corsair Pavillion to its feet. That put the Corsairs up by 12 points, 69-57. On the next possession a defensive stop by SMC led to a quick 3 point shot that pushed the lead to 15 points and the Corsairs were never threatened again. 

SMC was led in scoring by #22, Quinn Collins with 20 points and #3 Cam Cohn with 18 points.
