SMC Women's Soccer wins season opener

The Santa Monica College Corsairs Women's Soccer team defeated El Camino College in their season at home on Friday, August 30th.  The Corsairs started the game with high intensity and never looked back. 

Freshman Anika Williams logged her first collegiate goal in the 7th minute of the match with an assist from Ruth Pelaez to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead. In the 28th and 31st minutes of the game Emily Wiggins added her name to the stat sheet with her first two goals as a Corsair both assisted by Ceirra Little.  

The Corsairs continued to press in the second half adding a fourth goal by Narumi Kamiya assisted by Wiggins, and a final goal in the last few minutes of play by Kayla Makkar assisted by Little. Every goal was scored by freshman who are looking to make a big impact on the field this season. 

SMC Goal keeper Taylor Brown posted a shutout for the Corsairs with just one save on the game. In total the Corsairs had 11 shots on goal with 5 of them scoring. All healthy players for the Corsairs were able to have an impact in the game and get their first minutes of the season.

The SMC Corsairs will travel to Mira Costa College this Friday,  Chaffey College on September 13 and to Rio Hondo September 17th for strong non-conference match-ups
