Corsairs fall short in First place showdown

The Santa Monica College Women's Socce team traveled to Citrus College for a Western State Conference first place showdown.   Both teams entered the match with identical 3-0 records, but the Owls handed the Corsairs their first defeat by a score of 3-1. 

The evenly matched teams went scoreless into the halftime break at 0-0.  Citrus came out in the second half and scored the first goal of the match in the 55th minute to take a 1-0 lead. SMC had not given up a goal in the last 415 minutes of play this season.  

While the Corsairs pushed forward in an attempt to tie the game,  the Owls countered to take a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute. Ceirra Little added a goal for the Corsairs with 9 minutes left to play to make the game 2-1. The Owls continued to press and logged another goal in transition to finish the game 3-1. 

This is the first loss of conference for the Corsairs moving their WSC record to 3-1. Their overall record for the season is now 6-3-2. 

The Corsairs will return to action at home against Antelope Valley College at 3pm on Tuesday, October 15th in a double header with the men's team who kick-off at 1pm
