Women's Soccer Headed to the 3C2A State Tournament

CYPRESS, CA - No. 6 Cypress women's soccer defeated No. 10 Santa Monica Corsairs in the final round of playoffs, 3-2.

Cypress hosted the Santa Monica Corsairs on Saturday afternoon at Ray Haas Field for the third and final round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals. The game opened with four corner kicks in a row for the Chargers and one goal called offsides. Cypress had control of the game from the start with nine shots on goal compared to Santa Monica's one. However, the Corsairs only shot on goal gave them the lead at 1-0 within the first fifteen minutes of the game. Cypress was denied another goal due to offsides until Abigail Morales took her defender one-on-one from a long pass by the defensive line and tied the match 1-1 just before the first half ended.

In the second half, Jasmin Martinez set up Itzel Ramirez at the top of the box for an open shot. Ramirez drilled the ball to the back of the net and the Chargers led the Corsairs 2-1. Santa Monica answered and forced the draw 2-2 with about fifteen minutes left on the game clock.

Down to the final minutes of the game, Cypress received a corner kick opportunity and Martinez launched the ball to the middle of the box. Janae Kayser on Cypress ran towards the goal and scored off a header to the net for the Chargers third and final goal of the match.

Cypress knocked off Santa Monica and advances to the 3C2A State Semi-Finals.

UP NEXT: Cypress will travel to Mt. San Antonio College for the 3C2A State Tournament on December 1 and December 3. The final four teams will consist of two teams from the south and two teams from the northern region to compete in the tournament.
