The women's soccer team won the first match of the season, as the Corsairs were on the road, beating Mira Costa College, 2-1. The game started strong with two fast goals by the Corsairs. Alinna Savaterre opened the scoring in the 11' minute of the match, and Alicia Edberg added the second goal two minutes later. Both goals were assisted by Bella Velazco. Two minutes to the end of the match, Mira Costa scored their goal for the final score.
Coach Aaron Benditson said He is excited about the team with the returners and new players "We have a few transfers from other schools, and the expectations are high. We would like to compete for a championship. Although we lost Sophie, Ali, and Emma this season, we're returning a lot of good athletes and picked up some special players. With all that, we don't want to put unnecessary pressure on our roster".
"Coach what's in front of you, be flexible, and deal with different situations." Said Coach. "I'm Excited about the internal leadership. One of the things I love most about SMC, is getting individuals from all walks of life. Learning each other and the core values of the people in our dynamic environment is exciting and we want to leverage that towards the success of the program."
