Shattering the Western State Conference (WSC) record in the women's 400 medley relay by nearly seven seconds on Thursday, the Santa Monica College women's swim team brought the thunder to open its conference championship meet at Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC).

The quartet of Reva Reignier, Wilma Henriksson, Ema Kilmauskas and Emily Lester touched home in 3:53.95 to bring down an 11-year old WSC benchmark. The swim also bested the former SMC program record set in 2009 by Sarma Zemjanis, Sara Zandihn, Isabella Zhang and Chelsea Kemp by more than 9 seconds

Overall, the Corsairs finished with four podium finishes in relay competition, adding individual titles in the women's 200 IM (Risa Akatsu; 2:10.05) and 50 free (Lester; 24.30) as well as the men's 50 free (Hiro Inoki; 21.54).

Clocking in at 1:38.98, Akatsu, Reignier, Morgan Amis and Lester banded together to win the women's 200 free relay. Inoki, Tristan Quiane, Zaliyah Quant and Kristian Canchola-Miranda came together for a second place finish in the men's 200 free relay (1:30.04), while Titouan Pichon, Mikhai Davis, Inoki and Quiane splashed home third in the 400 medley (3:44.90).

SMC returns to action at LAVC starting at 9:30 a.m. Friday for prelims races in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Friday's' finals, which will include the 200 medley and 800 free relays, are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
