Santa Monica College athletics is proud to announce the selection of Christian Cammayo as Head Women's Volleyball Coach.   Cammayo has over 31 years of coaching experience and comes to SMC after 6 successful seasons as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at  L.A. Harbor College.

Cammayo played collegiate volleyball at UC San Diego.  He also played collegiately in Australia at the University of Wollongong and has 29 years playing experience on the beach and indoor.

Coach Cammayo began his coaching career at Boston University while attending law school.  He served as Head Coach of the BU Men's College Club Volleyball program, and helped BU attain a #2 national ranking. He also assisted with the BU Women's program and was an instructor for Boston University teaching 5 volleyball classes per semester (3 indoor + 2 beach).

Prior to leading the Women's Volleyball Team at Harbor College, Coach Cammayo was very active with USA Beach Volleyball and the local South Bay Beach scene.  He also had a thriving Beach Club that had multiple National Championship Tournament Bid winners.  Coach Cammayo served as Tournament Director for 10 USA Beach Volleyball Junior Events, including the prestigious USA Junior Beach Championships at the FIVB World Series of Volleyball in Long Beach, CA and the JVA Beach Volleyball Clubs of America National Championships in Hermosa Beach, CA.

SMC Athletic Director Reggie Ellis led the search for a new coach and spoke highly of Coach Cammayo.  "I feel that we have a very experienced and passionate coach to lead and build our women's volleyball program. His connections and relationships with club volleyball is a plus for building our program.  My expectations are that Coach Cammayo will build a successful academic and competitive program.  I feel that SMC women's volleyball should be one of the top programs in the state in retention, transfer rate and athletic accomplishments.  I am very excited about the future of the women's program. Coach Cammayo has hit the ground running in regard to recruiting and marketing the women's program."

Coach Cammayo shared his feelings about being selected to lead the Corsair Women's Volleyball team:  "SMC couples an outstanding education with proximity to the beach and world-class facilities.  I see an unbelievable opportunity to do great things for our students on and off the court.  Not only can California Student Athletes receive up to two years free tuition through the Promise program, but they can compete at a very high level in a tough conference. I am so excited to be the new Head Coach at Santa Monica College!"
