Corsairs fall to Cypress College in 1st round of playoffs

The Santa Monica College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end Friday night with their 103-75 Southern California Regional Playoff loss to Cypress College. Seeded #9 for the playoffs, the Corsairs (18-11) scored the first 9 points of the game but were outplayed the remainder of the game and dropped their first post-season game in five years to the #8-seeded Chargers (23-7).

"Its not hard to see why they beat us tonight," stated SMC Head Coach Lydia Strong.   "Their bench scored 47 points and honestly I've never seen a team shoot like that! They absolutely shot the lights out tonight.   If they keep shooting like that they will be very difficult to beat in the second round."

In fact Cypress shot a remarkable percentage from 3 point range (13-19) for 68.4% and shot 61.3% from the field (38-62).

SMC was led by its First team All Conference Selection Sophomore Point Guard Aniese Palmore (Santa Monica High) who ended her stellar career at Santa Monica College with 27 points (11-23 from the field) and 7 rebounds.    SMC also had contributions from Sophomore forward Jamelah Grate (Inglewood High) who ended her career at SMC with a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds)
