After going 2-0 on Friday at Mt San Antonio College in wet & rainy conditions, Corsair Beach remains undefeated on the season.

The squad has looked really solid to start the beach season.  The 2025 SMC beach team features greatly improved depth.

"The team is very competitive in practice" said Head Coach Christian Cammayo.  He added "They are excelling in ball control and setting and it's directly translating to a bevy of points."

The squad clinched the dual at the turn in both Friday matches.  This was on the heels of an impressive sweep versus Cerritos on Wednesday January 29.

Cerritos took 5th in the state in indoors, and SMC is showing that it belongs in the conversation on the sand.

MATCH 1 SMC defeats Mt Sac 4-1; MATCH 2 SMC defeats College of the Desert 5-0

SMC took some revenge against their last playoff opponent from 2024.

After dropping a close match in the Southern California playoff regional in San Diego last April, SMC came out on fire on the road.

SMC swept the second match against College of the Desert in a resounding 5-0 victory.

Notables:

- SMC 4s pair Allison Horin (Seattle, Washington) and Makena Gamby (Vancouver, Washington) took their foot of the gas, but held on for a great win in 3 sets against Mt Sac, then turned up the heat against the College of the Desert in a 2-0 sweep.

- SMC 5s pair Reese Luke (Chugiak, Alaska) and Stella Moritz held their opponents under 15 each set they played.

- The only hiccup February 7 was a nail-biter in overtime from the SMC 3s pair pair of Sadie Lorin (Piedmont HS, dual beach and indoor) and Eden Lorin (Piedmont HS, Beach-only).  The pair from Northern California bounced back to secure double digit victories at 21-9, 21-8.

- SMC's team depth was showcased by a 21-13, 21-7 exhibition win over Mt Sac, and a 21-13, 21-8 win over College of the Desert.

Hometown SMC 6s pair Anastasia Rho (Santa Monica)  and Holly MacGaffey (Culver City) got their first victory together in the exhibition challenge against College of the Desert.  The 6s pair against Mt Sac also featured a sweep by Kyla Dothard (Lancaster/College of the Canyons) / Finley Mayer (Santa Monica).

- The SMC 2s beach-only pair of Sophia Vandenberg (Bellevue, Idaho) and Samantha Harvey (Iowa City, Iowa / Southeastern Louisiana University ) held off a dynamic squad from College of the Desert.  After a 13-15 side change, the Corsairs uncorked a 6 point run to close out the match.

- SMC 1s pair featured a couple of South Bay Natives.  Nicole Lankton (Redondo Beach) and indoor state dig leader Annah Legaspi (Torrance) turned tight first set wins into game 2 blowouts by tightening up the screws on their opponents.  Against Mt Sac, the 21-19 victory turned into a 21-12 close out.  Against College of the Desert, 21-18 gave way to a 21-6 victory.
