The Santa Monica College football team celebrated National Signing Day with the announcement of five student-athletes transferring and signing with 4-year universities.  Josue Castro (Soph, OL) signed a National Letter of Intent with Azusa Pacific in front of his family in the SMC Skybox.  Chris Nickerson (Soph. WR)  was in his hometown of Kentridge, Washington when he was accepted to and signed with Southern Virginia University.

Castro was a two-year starter for SMC after graduating from West Adams Prep in Los Angeles.  Head Coach Kelly Ledwith said, "Josh was a great leader for our offensive line from the weight room to the field and in the classroom."

Nickerson played a major role for the Corsairs on Special Teams for two years and had his career best game at receiver at Allen Hancock College with 5 catches and career long reception which he matched the following week against Pasadena City College.  Coach Ledwith said, "Chris really found a great rhythm this season down the stretch with some really excellent route running in one on one coverage."

In addition to Castro and Nickerson signing, three other Corsairs transferred after the fall semester and have already enrolled at their new School.  Jackson Faringer, QB, Chimechi Oparanozie, OLB/DE, and Devin "Rico" Cox, MLB all transferred to Arizona Christian University over the winter and will begin workouts with their new teams this spring.  Faringer ended his Santa Monica Career on a high note with career highs in Completions (18), Passing Yards (146), Rushing Yards (46) and TDs (3).
