Two Corsairs named to All State Academic Team

Santa Monica, CA

April 3, 2020

Santa Monica College Football Coach Kelly Ledwith has announced that two Santa Monica College football players have been named to the 2019 All-State Academic Team by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.

Tucker LaRue, a sophomore Wide Receiver from Paradise, CA and R.C. Everbeck, a sophomore Defensive Back/Linebacker from Medfield, MA were both selected to the team in 2019.  This is the first time SMC has had two football players make this All-State Academic Football team in at least 5 years.

LaRue played both the 2018 and 2019 seasons for the Corsairs and recorded his career best 31-yard catch and a touchdown in his first ever college football game at home against the LA Southwest Cougars.  He is currently working on completing his spring courses and is planning to attend the University of Hawai'i in the Fall.

Everbeck completed one of the most interesting college football careers in college football history playing in 2017 and 2019 after an injury prevented him from playing in 2018.  Everbeck's journey was unique in that he turned 50-years-old prior to the final game of the 2019 season.  He recorded his best game as a Corsair against Bakersfield College this year when he made 3 straight tackles-for-loss.

Head Football Coach Kelly Ledwith said "I am extremely proud of the work Tucker and R.C. put in and am grateful for the recognition they received.  It's a testament to their dedication to making their education a priority and following through – it was not easy for either of them, but they saw it through. Santa Monica College is a great place for students to come and get their educations while pursuing their athletic careers and those two are great examples of it."
