Santa Monica, CA – Santa Monica College Men's Basketball 6-3 sophomore point guard Teddy Parham made the CCCMBCA All-State Academic Team, which honors the men's basketball players in the state who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher as a full-time student while competing as a student-athlete. The team featured 17 student-athletes. This is quite an accomplishment as there were well over 1,000 men's basketball student-athletes this season.

"I want to thank SMC for recognizing me as one of the all-state honor roll students. It has been a long, great two years, and I have tried to excel in both my academics and athletics. As a student-athlete, my biggest challenge was my time management. It was sometimes hard for me to be in class from 9:30am-2:30pm and do homework before practice – then practice for two hours and then drive back home and cook dinner," said Parham who will graduate from SMC with an AA degree in Communication Studies.

Parham, who boasts a 3.55 GPA, made the Dean's Honor List every semester at Santa Monica College.

"As my daily routine became repetitive, I was able to adjust. I believe that no matter how far I go in basketball, no one can take a degree from my name and it's something that I strive to earn," said Parham.

"As far as a typical game day goes, my schedule is usually the same. I wake up earlier than usual to get ready for school, I go to my classes on campus, I watch film throughout the day and review my scouting report, we eat a team lunch before every game and watch more film – and then tip-off," Parham explained. "When it comes to completing assignments on game days, I personally tried to get ahead of my work so I wouldn't have anything due on those days and also so that after the game, I could go home, relax, and recover for the next day. Overall, I am very blessed to be a student-athlete at SMC and I would like to thank my professors, coaches, and parents for supporting my journey 100%. Thank you."

In addition, Parham was named the General Advisory Board (GAB) Men's Basketball Athlete of the Year in 2018-2019, which recognizes student-athletes who excelled academically and athletically and rendered community service.

"Teddy exemplified what our men's basketball program is looking for in relation to academic excellence. Teddy is very intelligent, and I firmly believe he will be highly successful in his career on and off the court. His parents, Ted Sr. and Giovanni, are great supporters and exceptional parents. They really raised a fine young man and taught him the value in education. Teddy came to Santa Monica College fully equipped with academic balance, academic study habits, academic perseverance, and academic structure, which was instilled in him from his wonderful parents. I tell you this – Teddy Parham will be successful in this world and will be an alumnus that the men's basketball program and Santa Monica College will be very proud of for years to come," shared Head Coach Joshua Thomas.
