Mekhi Kimble signs with Lincoln University of Missouri

Santa Monica, Calif. –

Santa Monica College Men's Basketball Coach Joshua Thomas has announced that 6-3 Sophomore Shooting Guard Mekhi Kimble has signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division II Lincoln University of Missouri. Kimble was voted Western State-South Conference Honorable Mention Team this season. He had career-highs of 25 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and one block. Kimble led the Corsairs with 55 three-pointers made this season.

"We are elated for Mekhi," Head Coach Joshua Thomas said. "Our coaching staff enjoyed being a part of Mekhi's journey at SMC. Mekhi persevered through his freshman season and helped us win a big playoff game that season, as he hit the game-winning three-pointer and clinching free throws. This season, Mekhi was a starter and was a contributor that we depended on immensely."

Kimble scored in double figures 13 times this season, made three or more three-pointers in 10 games, and scored 20 or more points three times.

"I have decided to go with Lincoln University simply because they were the right fit for me. I would like to thank my mother for helping me through my first two years of college. I also would like to thank my teammates for constantly pushing me to be better day in and day out," said Kimble, who is set to graduate with an AA degree in Liberal Arts. "Lastly, I would like to thank the coaching staff for being my ultimate support throughout my entire two years at SMC. I am extremely excited to become a Blue Tiger and carry out the rest of my basketball career at Lincoln University."

This season, Kimble averaged 10.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.8 steals. He shot 38.2% from three-point range and 73.2% from the free throw line. Mekhi had great success at SMC with winning over 20 games each season and making the Elite 8 and Sweet 16.

"Mekhi was one of the most skilled guards in the CCCAA. He is uber athletic, great at shooting off the dribble, but more importantly, he works hard at his craft," said Assistant Coach Devon Richardson. "He has the drive that makes players great, and I have no doubt his skills, leadership, and work ethic will serve him well on his next journey."

"Mekhi is a highly talented guard that can score in a plethora of ways. The Blue Tigers can expect hard work and dedication from Mekhi daily," said Thomas. "I am glad Mekhi chose to come to SMC. He helped usher in the recent success and culture change in our program. I know that he will be a great addition to Lincoln University of Missouri. Our basketball program will continue to follow his career, and we know he will have continued success on and off the court moving forward."
