The 2024 season was a remarkable one for the Santa Monica College (SMC) Men's Soccer team. Dominating the Western State Conference (WSC), the team clinched the conference title for the third time in the past six seasons, boasting an impeccable 10-0 conference record. Their overall performance was equally impressive, finishing the season with a 17-3-3 record, ranking 8th in the state and 11th nationally in the final polls.
Despite their stellar season, the Corsairs' journey ended in a heart-wrenching 2-1 double overtime loss to the eventual state champions, Cuyamaca, in the second round of the playoffs. This defeat, however, did not overshadow their numerous achievements and the individual accolades earned by the team members.
Philip Hephzibah was named the WSC Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, showcasing his consistent offensive prowess. On the defensive end, Josh McCowan also repeated as the WSC Defensive Player of the Year, solidifying his reputation as a defensive stalwart. Head Coach Tim Pierce was honored as the WSC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row and the fourth time overall.
The 2024 season will be remembered not only for the team's impressive record and conference dominance but also for the individual brilliance and collective effort that defined their journey. The Corsairs have set a high bar for future seasons, and their achievements this year will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of SMC soccer players.
