The SMC Corsair Men's Volleyball team won its second game of the season on Friday evening at home against Grossmont with a straight set victory 26-24, 25-18, 25-20, improving its record on the season to 2-2.

SMC overcame a slow start to win the 1st set in overtime before finding the rhythm in the 2nd and 3rd set to finish off the match. The Corsairs were led by Freshman Middle Blocker Jace Allison from Woodland Hills, California, who finished the game hitting 0.300 and a crucial block late in the game to help the Corsairs close out Grossmont.

Freshman Defensive Specialist Ryan Montero also had a big game for the Corsairs with six digs off the bench to win Co-Player of the Game with Allison. SMC currently leads the state in total digs and digs per set following the Grossmont match. Montero, when asked about the outlook for the rest of the season, said "I'm pretty excited about the overall growth within all of our freshmen, it's a really young program."

"This was our strongest blocking game." said Allison, after the victory. "Our blocking overall as a team was pretty good. E-Lo [Ethan Lo] got a lot of blocks, I got a couple blocks...Sebastian subbed in and got a good block." SMC ranks second in the state in total blocks after Friday.

SMC looks to continue its winning streak on Wednesday night at home against Santiago Canyon in the Corsair Gym before an away game against Orange Coast on Friday night. Wear PINK on Wednesday night for Valentine's Day and Breast Cancer Awareness. Come support your Corsairs!
