Santa Monica College Women's Basketball standout Chassen Gutierrez was selected to the All Western State Conference team last week. Gutierrez led the conference in shooting percentage (50.7%) while finishing second in scoring and 9th in rebounding. For the 2019-2020 season she averaged 18 points per game and 9 rebounds per game for the Corsairs.
"Chassen had an amazing season for us this year," stated SMC Head Coach Lydia Strong. "She played hard every game, was a force on the rebounding end and was just phenomenal all season long. It was great to watch her play this season. I'm looking forward to watching her improve and dominate next season as well."
Gutierrez played locally at Fairfax High School.
Sophomore Ariana Quintana (Taft High School) was an honorable mention choice in the WSC this season as well. Quintana (a 3 point specialist) averaged 10 ppg for the Corsairs this season. Quintana will be playing in the State All Star Showcase Friday March 13 at Fresno City College.
