The Santa Monica College Corsairs traveled to take on their conference rivals, LA Pierce College Brahmas, coming out with a 2-1 victory.

As expected, the game was a battle from the kick-off. In the 30th minute, SMC gave up the first goal of the match off of a penalty kick from a quick transition play that broke the back line. At the last minute, Renee Escobar slid in to try to block the shot and clipped the attacking player to give up the penalty kick.

The Corsairs were not going to give up that easily. They upped the pressure and continued to create opportunities in the attacking third when Dayli Ramos hammered a shot in to tie the game at 1-1. Just minutes later Filippa Struxsjo tapped in a beautiful free kick from Antoinette Saldana to give SMC a 2-1 lead going into half time.

The second half proved to be just as competitive as the first, but the Corsairs were able to maintain their lead and finished the game with a 2-1 victory over the Brahmas.

The Corsairs recorded 10 shots with 8 of them on goal in the game to the Brahmas 1 shot for the entire match. Yosemite Cruz got the win for SMC in goal taking the team record to 9-1-4 on the season and now 2-0 in conference play. The Corsairs remain ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College DIII Poll for the national rankings.

The Corsairs return to Santa Monica Colege Friday October 19 and will take on Glendale College at home at 6pm. This is the only remaining night game for Santa Monica College women's soccer this season.
