Santa Monica College Women's Soccer and its The SMC Athletic Department are honored to celebrate some of its most notable 2019 standouts. Overall, the Women's Soccer team had a successful fall season earning a 14-5-3 overall record, finishing second place in a tight title run in the Western State Conference Southern division and qualifying for the Southern Regional Playoffs for the its 6th consecutive season.

Undoubtedly, a trio of players were instrumental in the Corsairs success this fall.  Ruth Pelaez has been a dynamic starting player for the past two seasons. Ruth was a versatile defender who captained the team this season. Through her leadership and dynamic play, she helped the team to a 0.91 goals against average.  Additionally, she has shown her quality in the classroom. Ruth has a cumulative 3.6 GPA and is planning on majoring in Biology or Child Development and pursuing a career in the medical field. Ruth will be taking her talents to Life Pacific University in the fall to continue her student-athlete career.

Joining her at LPU will be Ceirra Little. Ceirra has been an offensive dynamo for the past two seasons. In in her two years at SMC she has accumulated 59 total points, scoring 25 goals and adding 9 assists. "These impressive numbers show her ability to be impactful in key moments of games and have the composure to make plays. Ceirra is a player who is extremely athletic and she was able to score goals in various ways," said coach Coach Benditson. A Kinesiology major, we are excited for her opportunity at LPU as well and know she will do big things there.

The third student-athlete who is moving forward with her academics and athletics is Giselle Lopez. "G," as she has been nicknamed by her teammates and coaches, is headed to the University of La Verne, an NCAA Division III affiliate to continue her student-athlete career. Additionally, Giselle is a Kinesiology major and currently possesses a 3.59 GPA. During her 2 year playing career at SMC, she played in 35 games, logging 1 goal and 1 assist as a defender. This past fall she was one of the team captains. "Giselle is probably one of the best captains I've had the pleasure of coaching while at SMC. She embodies every quality you want in a player who has been given that role. She's honest, hardworking, kind, caring ,and always led by example. Her presence will be missed tremendously within our program but we know there is so much more to come from her in her new chapter," commented Coach Benditson.

Please help join us in celebrating these extraordinary student-athletes and people as they take the next steps in their student-athlete lives.
