SMC Tennis Comes Close to Toppling 1st Place Canyons

 

Going into today's match SMC women's tennis (3-4) came close to defeating the visiting College of the Canyons but ultimately lost a very close match 6-3. 

 

The day started with business as usual for West and Nikchevic (no. 1 doubles) who posted the first point for the Corsairs with an 8-2 win.  Canyons won at no. 2 and no. 3 doubles which put the Corsairs down 1-2 going into singles.

 

Nicole West (no. 1 singles) and Kai Nikchevich (No. 2 singles) put the Corsairs ahead 3-2, posting quick wins with West winning 6-1, 6-2 and  Nikchevich wining by an identical score of 6-1, 6-2.  Ditto!    These would prove to be the last of the SMC points of the day as the Corsairs lost two tough three-set matches with Veronica Gerlach (no. 3 singles) and Yasna Yaghoubi (no. 4 singles) both coming up short in their matches.
