Defense Dominates in Road Win for Corsairs Football

The Santa Monica College Corsair Football team beat Compton College 14-6 Saturday Night.   The Corsair defense forced 4 turnovers, all by sophomore Juston David.  The final interception came in the end zone to preserve the 14-6 lead at the beginning of the 4th quarter.  The defense was only on the field for 6 more plays after that decisive play.

The Corsair scoring was led by a group of freshman as running back Trevontai Thompson led the team in rushing with 70 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Zach Yanda completed a touchdown pass to Kahlid Booker. Tariq Brown, another freshman, led the team in receiving including a 37 yard pass deep down the left sideline.

Compton College scored their only points of the game in the 3rd quarter after a fumble recovery that was returned for a touchdown.  Compton College went for a 2-point conversion but the Santa Monica College defense kept them out of the end zone.

Next week the Corsairs (2-2) return home to host Victor Valley College (2-2) at 6pm at Corsair Stadium.
