
Santa Monica Wins Final Road Match of Season at Ventura, 5-4
SMC Tennis wins final road match of the season with a 5-4 win over Ventura.
Nicole West and Kai Nikchevich scored the 1st doubles point with an 8-1 win at the no. 1 position. Veronica Gerlach and Juyan Pollack picked up the second doubles point with an 8-4 win a at no. 2 doubles. Yasna Yaghoubi and Nadima Shirzad lost at no. 3 doubles. Going into singles the Corsairs led 2-1.
Nikchevich (no. 2 singles) posted the first Corsair singles points with a 6-0, 6-2 win and West (no. 1 singles) West (no. 1 singles) followed suit with 6-0, 6-0 win to put the Corsairs ahead 4-1. Ventura roared back picking up the next three points at no. 6, no. 5 and no. 4 singles to tie the match at 4-4.
This left the deciding match at no. 4 singles match where the Corsairs seemed to be on the verge of losing a fifth 5-4 match of the season as no. 4 singles after Veronica Gerlach lost the first set 7-5. Gerlach, however, dug deep and won the second set 6-4 and then shifted her game into overdrive and broke the tie with a spectacular, 6-0 third set, giving the Corsairs a 5-4 win.

West and Nikchevich raised their record at no. 1 doubles to 10-0.
